MBSR

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an 8-week program designed to instruct participants in ways to apply and integrate mindfulness into their daily lives.

Mindfulness cultivates present moment awareness and the connection of mind and body. Being acutely aware of what is real in each moment opens our eyes to the unconscious thoughts or actions that cause us to react and rob us of the choice to respond to what is happening.

Seated meditation, walking meditation, body scan, and yoga are used, highlighting the importance of learning through experience and transferring the application of these practices to everyday life.

The self-regulatory skills and mind/body awareness developed through consistent practicing in mindfulness meditation have been proven beneficial in increasing relaxation and proprioceptive awareness, coping with stress, altering ones perception and relationship to physical pain, and promoting feelings of health and well-being.

MBSR was started by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979 working with patients dealing with chronic pain.

MBSR is now offered in over 700 medical centers and hospitals around the world.

In our current climate, possessing tools to deal with anxiety, worry, and stress are vital to our health and well-being. To accommodate personal preferences and requirements, we will be offering MBSR classes both in-person and online. State mandates will dictate if we can hold the in-person class, but the option for the live online class will remain available.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, simply a necessity for a satisfying life. The mental discipline I gain from The Mindful Meditation classes was an enriching and natural experience. Meditation and self reflection should be a natural part (second nature) of our daily lives, but the hurried and hectic life style we are involved in generally precludes it. It was only through the experience & knowledge gained in the Mindfulness Meditation sessions, and the personal practice, practice and more practice, that I began to appreciate its benefits. I soon realized I was becoming more calm and relaxed, even in hurried and stressful situations. I was able to be more focused in my thoughts, more aware and appreciative of the present moments in my life, as they progress with each breath. The ability to discipline the mind to maintain focus on one thought or subject and not dart around (or multiplex) on distracting topics is amazingly calming and personally rewarding. How much more wonderful my life would be if this knowledge was available to me decades ago.”

Mindfulness can be done anywhere at anytime. Try it now with this 9-minute practice focused on relieving stress...
